Sketch outline: Safety First
Safety First
What’s up youtube it’s your very good friend Pat the carpenter.
(Pause)
I hope everyone is having a fantastic day. It’s a cool 65 degrees with a bit of a breeze blowing through. Nice and sunny so a perfect day to do some home improvements. Today we’re making an end table.
(Pause)
Now I find no room is truly complete without the proper end furniture. Somewhere a place to put your drink or a snack. Somewhere for your remote, to keep it out of the sofa cushions.
(Pause)
Before we get to this project, safety tips. When you’re in the shop, you’re in danger. It’s important to wear protective glasses, hearing protection, dust protection, as needed for the tasks you’re preforming.
That said let’s get to the goods. For this project I’m going to use walnut for the top, and maple for the legs. I had these scraps laying around the shop, and some end table legs would be a good use for otherwise junk lumber. And I’m just going to use wood glue for the joins.
(Pause. Back to pat)
All right. Great. Let’s get started.
First thing to do, is square up our stock, to do that I’m going to hop onto the table saw. *turns on saw, it’s really loud* mfjasljfsjl
Pat 2: haha. That’s not gonna work. Let me take over. (Pat one stops the table saw and nods).
Pat 2: remember using a table saw requires proper focus and safety. That saw blade makes your life easier, but at any moment, it can make your life MUCH worse. It’s important to respect the power of the saw. Thinking of a tool as infallable will leave you in a world of hurt. My uncle Paul used a cheap drill bit to try and set a trick doorjam, bit broke to peices and took off his eyelid. Man couldn’t blink. Eye shriveld up like a prune. That’s a hard way to learn that cheap steel is no good, and 1/16” pilot hole is just screwy, pardon the pun.
Pat 2: So it’s really important to be safe any time you use a power tool. (Pat 1 facing away from camera jumps slightly. He struggles with something unknown until he turns slightly and realize he’s trying to put pressure on a major cut. But the blood is getting everywhere). Now for rip cuts, make sure you’re using a rip blade, or a combo blade. Don’t skimp on sawblades-- (Pat 2 sees pat 1 is injured) ohjeez that looks awful.
Pat 1: (to camera) it’s alright folks. Just got to put a little pressure on you see safety first. (He holds up the cut and it spurts. He tried to tunicate it)
Pat 2: oh no. Oh you need help. This is when CA glue does it’s original purpose, wound sealing. It’s going to be ok. (Pat 2 holds up hands and he sees a finger missing that was there a second ago). No. It’s happening. Quick.
(Pat 2 goes over to try and help Pat 1. First he just tries to help put pressure on the wound but as pat 1 loses balance he puts he catches him. He walks him over to a chair and sets him down and gets him a bucket of ice)
Pat 2: we need that finger quick so we can get you to the hospital before…(Pat 2 flickers briefly from existence) oh no it’s happening already.
Pat 1: I tried to go too fast. I was thinking to much about the next step. I was just about to talk about the significance of tooth count. (He fades in and out of consciousness)
Pat 2: dammit pat I’m not losing you. I’m not losing me for that matter. I’ll change this. I’ll go even further back and change this.
(Pat leaves pat and goes to a large computer with video editing software open. We see the screen open where he inserted himself via green screen. He then quickly selects the earlier selection of the video where he first uses the saw and clicks the mouse)
Pat2: safety first. (Pat 3 enters and tries to walk past) hey you can’t be here.
Pat3: something’s about to happen. I have to stop it.
Pat2: no. We said we wouldn’t do this. There are consequences.
Pat3: damn your consequences. I have to stop this.
Pat2: NO (they struggle during which pat 2 is accidentally flung into the table saw. Blood splatters and he dies)
Pat3: oh no
Pat1: what have you done?
Pat3: I can fix this. Yes I can fix it. I’ll just go back even further than before. I can fix it. I can fix it.
(We see the pat from the opening again talking to the camera. Behind pat3 tries to take him out. A fourth pat shows up bloodied with a bandage around his head, ear, and hand; and an eye patch. He stops pat3’s hands and he struggles to stay his hands)
Pat4: this has to stop!
Pat3: I am stopping this!
Pat1: what’s going on?
Pat4: no you’re making everything worse. Actions have consequences. We promised ourselves we wouldn’t do this!
Pat1: what is this?
Pat3: that was before!
Pat4: we’re putting an end to this
Pat3: we?
(A fifth pat takes out 3 from behind. Blood flows from pat3’s head staining the floor).
Pat4: he was messing with powers he didn’t really understand. It had to be done. You’re safe now. Just be more careful handling power tools. Safety first. (As he speaks pats 4 and 5 start to fade out until he disappears).
Pat1: I don’t what this was. But thank you.
“Later”
(It’s very dark. The screen illuminates Pat1 as he sits down to edit the video. He sees the ability to edit himself into the video via green screen).
Pat1: oh. This could be fun.
(He clicks the mouse).
